Volunteer Onboarding

  1. Register yourself for any training that’s required by a program you’re interested in.

Schedule a youth advocacy training by emailing avelazquez@wafwc.org.

2. Create a volunteer profile for yourself.

Using an Internet browser? This link will take you right to the portal to create a new profile.

Prefer to use a mobile app? You will need to use the QR code, which will take you to a page that allows you to create your account. After that, you will then be able to download the app and sign in to your profile. NOTE: for reasons unknown, you need to create your profile using the direct link or the QR code before you can sign in using the app.

3. Get fingerprinted for a background check.

You can review information about background checks here or contact Marjorie with any questions.

Download the background check form and print it out. Alternatively, you may pick up a physical copy for free at our main office. Fill out your personal information on the form. You may not be able to fill out every question and that’s okay.

Bring the form with you to any LiveScan office in the state of California during walk-in hours. You can find the most convenient location at the LiveScan site here. LiveScan does not offer prior appointments.

  • Save your payment receipt! Your receipt is proof that you visited LiveScan in the rare but not impossible scenario that something goes wrong with the LiveScan system.

  • If you do not receive an update on your background check within a week of getting fingerprinted, please contact Marjorie for follow-up.

The Fee Waiver Application

If the cost of the background check would otherwise prevent you from participating with us, you may download a fee waiver application here. Please fill it out and email it to Marjorie as a PDF, DOC, or DOCX file before you visit LiveScan.

If Walnut Avenue’s current funding status allows us to approve your application, you will receive an approval letter that you must print and take with you, along with the background check form, to LiveScan. This letter authorizes LiveScan to charge Walnut Avenue for your fingerprinting. Only the LiveScan office on Cedar Street in Santa Cruz is able to accommodate a fee waiver approval letter, as this is the only office which has our banking information on file.

4. Review these documents before the first day of your volunteering and/or training.
