Education, Collaboration, & Events

Different ways of learning.

Walnut Avenue offers a variety of ways for our community to access evidence-based information about domestic violence and supporting survivors.

  • Our advocates offer 1- or 2-hour presentations to members of our community. This could be for a nonprofit, an organization, a social or faith-based group, or a group of friends and loved ones.

    • Time: 1-2 hours

    • Delivery: virtual or in-person

    • Subject: Domestic violence 101, with some room for customization of content based on the audience’s needs

    • Cost: free

  • A Walnut Avenue staff person will offer information about Walnut Avenue’s services and how people can access them. This is intended for service providers and resource events intended for survivors and families.

    • Time: 10-30 minutes

    • Delivery: virtual or in-person

    • Subject: Walnut Avenue’s services and how to access them

    • Cost: free

  • We offer a Healthy Relationships presentation and presentation series using the evidence-based curriculum.

    • Time: 1-1.5 hours

    • Delivery: virtual or in-person

    • Subjects: healthy and unhealthy relationships (including friendships), consent, safe dating, sexting, etc.

    • Cost: free

  • This training is longer than the “101” presentation but shorter than the full certification training. It covers the basics of domestic violence and provides a foundation of peer counseling skills in the context of supporting survivors.

There is a similar service available through our Space for Change programs.

    • Time: variable depending on audience availability; typically between 6-12 hours

    • Delivery: virtual or in-person

    • Subject: basics of domestic violence + peer counseling

    • Cost: variable and discussed before the training

  • Twice a year in April and October, Walnut Avenue offers the California state domestic violence advocacy/peer counseling certification training.

    • Time: 40+ hours

    • Delivery: half self-paced, half live; live sessions are either virtual (April) or in person (October)

    • Subject: please see the informational page about the training for more information

    • Cost: $250 for non-volunteers; free for volunteers
