Thanks to the great work of our 2018-2019 Development Intern, Elena Owens, we are thrilled to debut our first ever Friends of Walnut Avenue group!

Elena focused her time at Walnut Avenue and her college Capstone Project on designing the infrastructure for Friends of Walnut Avenue, a group of dedicated community ambassadors who will forge forward with support and resources for the agency.

This dynamic group of women jumped in during our first-ever fundraiser in 2018 as well as our Turkey Drive and Adopt-a-Family season with vigor. Michele and Timerie filled our Silent Auction tables with donations from our generous community. Janie and Tiffany led the charge for Thanksgiving dinners and Chelsea let us borrow all of her holiday decorations for our “North Pole” as well as set it up. If you know any of these fantastic women, please thank them for their service. We really appreciate them and couldn’t do our work without them.

Our Mission

Friends of Walnut Avenue (Friends Of) is a volunteer fundraising group as well as a diverse community of individuals who love and support the mission and work of Walnut Avenue Family & Women’s Center. Friends Of are investors in Walnut Avenue. They support the work via our annual fundraisers by procuring auction items, hosting tables, and inviting guests to attend or participate in our events. Friends Of are advocates by opening doors for Walnut Avenue to share our story with the community. Friends Of are champions of the value of our organization in this community.

Members may be asked to:

• Recruit donors to support Walnut Avenue

• Support existing agency fundraisers

• Host small fundraising events
